PROTECT YOUR FAMILY FROM S.C.U.M.

S.C.U.M.

Protect your family from S.C.U.M. (Stormwater Carrying Unhealthy Muck) by preventing erosion on your property. Be sure tires are not moving sediment onto the road as this may cause severe problems in our waterways. Sediment washes off the streets and into our streams, which are already laden with siltation. This overburden has created severe problems for wildlife and the health of Slaters Creek and Mansker Creek is at risk.

As water moves, it picks up everything in its path and carries it to a body of water somewhere. Storm Drains DO NOT filter water before reaching our streams; be vigilent if you live near a storm drain and try to keep anything that is not clean, clear water from entering. Never mow so that grass clippings end up on the road; never wash your vehicle on the road or other paved surface; never wash paint brushes at outside faucets;  always pick up after your pet; all of this will be carried by the rain, creating S.C.U.M.

Storm Drains should be protected from:

  1. Pesticides and Fertilizers
  2. Auto Fluids
  3. Pet Waste
  4. Car Wash water
  5. Paint Residue
  6. Leaves
  7. Grass Clippings
ALL STORM DRAINS IN THE CITY OF MILLERSVILLE ARE SCHEDULED TO BE MARKED WITH “Don’t Pollute; Flows to Waterways”. BE LOOKING FOR THIS ADDITION TO THE STORM DRAINS LATE SPRING OR EARLY SUMMER OF 2010.
